Remote dial-up or Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) sessions that use the Extensible Authentication Protocol/Transport Layer Security (EAP/TLS) authentication method, called 'smart card', cannot establish an encrypted session with a peer that is using a version of Microsoft Windows 2000 earlier than Release Candidate 1. The connection succeeds, but no data is successfully transmitted. This occurs because of a change in the way encryption keys are generated.
