Stopping Persistent Connections Causes Drives to Become Permanently Unavailable

SYMPTOMS

Stopping the reconnection of a persistent connection during the logon process can cause that network drive to become permanently unavailable. Subsequent attempts to connect to the drive may generate the following error message:

An error occurred while connecting to X: the local device name is already in use.

Logging off and logging back on in the same Terminal Server session does not resolve the issue.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a.
