WD2000: File Size Increases When Word Document Is Embedded as ActiveX Document

SYMPTOMS

When you embed a Word document as an ActiveX document into another program file, such as an Excel workbook, the size of the program file increases substantially.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both the following conditions are true:

  • A Word document is embedded as an ActiveX document.
  • The Word document has embedded links to other programs, like Excel and PowerPoint.

The problem occurs both when the Allow fast saves option is selected and when it is not selected.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2.
