SYMPTOMS

When you use a transparent GIF for a custom picture in a hover button, the transparent area of the picture is not the same as the background of your Web page in your Web browser.

CAUSE

FrontPage uses Java applets for the hover button. With Java applets you can change the color of the background for the applet. This is a separate background from what is displayed for the entire Web page. When you use a transparent GIF, the Web browser displays the background for the Java applet, not the background for the Web page. This is most noticeable when the background of the Web page is different from the hover button.

NOTE: You cannot use a custom image for the background of the Java applet. It only uses Web-palette-safe colors.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the same color for the Web page background as you do for the hover button.

To change the color of the Web page background, follow these steps:

1. Right-click the page in Page view, and then click Page Properties.
2. Click the Background tab.
3. Clear the Background picture check box, and then select a color in the Background list. Click OK.

To change the background color of a hover button, follow these steps:

1. Right-click your FrontPage component, and then click Hover Button Properties.
2. Click a color in the Background list. Use the same color that you used for your Web page background.
3. Click OK.
