OL98: Imported .csv File Does Not Handle X.400 Address Types

Article ID: 253567

Article Last Modified on 10/18/2005

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Outlook 98 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q253567

SYMPTOMS

When you import contacts that include X.400 e-mail addresses from a comma separated value (*.csv) file into the Contacts folder, the address type defaults to SMTP. This causes these addresses to be unusable, and generates non-delivery reports (NDRs).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

The English Version of the fix should have the following file and version:

File Name Version
Oladd.fae 8.5.0.7226

NOTE: It is important to know that different applications export to .csv differently. Therefore, use the example format for correct e-mail address and e-mail type. E-mail Address and E-mail Type are the formatting critical fields.

Display name Alias Name E-mail Address (X.400) E-Mail Type
Last Name, First Name IO24354 c=US;a= ;p=PARTNERFMR;o=PARTNERNE1;s=Last Name;g=First Name; X400

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
