SYMPTOMS
When you use the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) Accessibility tool and you click the CTRL + ALT key combination, all of the alphanumeric keys become blank.
Also, if you move the pointer over a key, the key is displayed as a black box.
CAUSE
This issue can occur for the following reasons:
- The key combination is invalid.
- You move the pointer to the next letter before you release the mouse button.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
- Release the mouse button before you move to the next letter or number on the OSK.
- Click the button to display the key, and then click the same button to select it.
- Scroll the pointer off the blackened key, and then scroll the pointer back to select the key.
- Use a valid key combination.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
