SYMPTOMS

When you use the Package and Deployment Wizard in Microsoft PowerPoint to create a package, you may want to include other files in your package. On the Included Files page of the Package and Deployment Wizard, in addition to the main project file, you can add a PowerPoint file to the package. If that secondary PowerPoint file contains references to other files (DLLs, ActiveX Controls, Type Libraries, and so on), the wizard prompts you to scan for dependencies. If you choose to scan for dependencies, you may receive the following error message

Can't quit at this time

followed by:

PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct. You should save presentations, quit, and then restart PowerPoint.

You then see a Microsoft Windows error message which says that PowerPoint will be shut down. In Windows 2000, the message reads as follows:

POWERPNT.EXE has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

If you click OK or if you simply wait, PowerPoint shuts down.

In other versions of Windows, the text of the error message may be different. But PowerPoint still shuts down.
