SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to run an Internet ODBC application on a Site Server 3.0 computer, the following error message may occur:

Error: 80004005 old net lib "dbmssocn" detected please delete it and restart the application.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the SQL Server TCP/IP sockets Net Library Dbmssocn.dll file from the <winnt>\System32\Inetsrv directory.

The latest version of the Dbmssocn.dll file is located in the <winnt>\System32 directory.

MORE INFORMATION

The SQL Server TCP/IP sockets Net Library Dbmssocn.dll file is installed by Site Server 3.0 for Personalization & Membership (P&M). Because P&M requires sockets, Site Server 3.0 installs the file. Removing and/or renaming the file and using the updated version from the System32 directory does not adversely affect any of the components in Site Server 3.0 or Site Server 3.0, Commerce Edition. Site Server 3.0 use the updated Dbmssocn.dll file from the System32 directory.
