APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q253267

SYMPTOMS

If you configure a multicast station and start the application on a Windows Media server, you may receive the following error in the stream status:

Error: The specified stream type is not recognized. (0xc00d0026)

CAUSE

When you are configuring a stream for a program on a Windows Media server, you can add a stream manually by clicking the Streams button and selecting New. This dialog box allows you to put in any URL on the Source/Destination tab and does not check the validity of the URL.

RESOLUTION

Ensure that you are using a valid URL for the source of your stream.

MORE INFORMATION

Valid URLs for a stream source can only be paths to an encoder, another Windows Media server set up for distribution, or a unicast publishing point. For example:

   mms://localhost/sample.asf

-or-

   msbd://encoder1:7007

Note that local file system paths such as C:\Asfroot\Sample.asf and UNC paths such as \\server1\fileshare\sample.asf are not valid paths.
