SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook Express and type in the German language, the spelling checker may not work as expected.

CAUSE

The Outlook Express spelling checker does not use the correct German language spelling reform. Office 2000 does use the new spelling reform.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the spelling checker from Microsoft Word:

  1. Write your e-mail message in Word.
  2. Press F7 to check your spelling.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  5. Start Outlook Express, and then create a new e-mail message.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Paste, and then send your e-mail message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
