SYMPTOMS
When you install Office 97 and open Outlook, you may receive the following error message:
When you click OK, Outlook closes.
If you double-click the Mail icon in Control Panel, you see that a new profile and new .pst file have been configured.
CAUSE
During the installation process, some files were either damaged or corrupted.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, you must do the following operations. The steps are detailed later in this section.
- Find and rename the Outllib.dll file and the .ecf files.
- Remove Outlook 97.
- Remove Windows Messaging.
- Reinstall Microsoft Outlook.
Find and Rename the Outllib.dll File and the .ecf Files
- Quit all open applications.
- Click the Start button, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- Search for and rename the following files with an .old extension:
Current file name: Rename to this file name: ----------------------------------------------- Outllib.dll Outllib.old Emsuix2.ecf Emsuix2.old Formpsht.ecf Formpsht.old Rwiz1.ecf Rwiz1.old Mtmolmnu.ecf Mtmolmnu.old Dumpster.ecf Dumpster.old
Remove Outlook
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click Microsoft Office 97, and then click Add/Remove.
- Click Add/Remove, click to cancel the Outlook selection in the list of programs.
- Click Continue, and then click Yes to remove Outlook.
Remove Windows Messaging
To uninstall Windows Messaging, follow the appropriate steps for the version of Microsoft Windows that you are using:
Microsoft Windows 95
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click the Windows Setup tab, and then click to cancel the Windows Messaging selection in the list of programs.
You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Microsoft Windows 98
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click the Install/Uninstall tab, click Windows Messaging, and then click Add/Remove.
You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Microsoft Windows NT
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click the Windows NT Setup tab, click to clear the Windows Messaging check box, and then click OK.
You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Reinstall Windows Messaging
To reinstall Windows Messaging, follow the appropriate steps for the version of Microsoft Windows that you are using:
Microsoft Windows 95
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, and then click the Windows Setup tab.
- Click to select the Windows Messaging check box, and then click OK.
You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Microsoft Windows 98
- Insert your Microsoft Windows 98 compact disc into your CD-ROM drive.
- Click the My Computer icon, right-click your CD-ROM drive, and then click Explore. Browse through the folders to the following location:
Tools\Oldwin95\Message\Us\Wms.exe
- Double-click Wms.exe, and then follow the prompts in the Installation Wizard.
You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Microsoft Windows NT
- Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, and then click the Windows NT Setup tab.
- Click to select the Windows Messaging check box, and then click OK.
You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Reinstall Outlook
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office 97 in the list of programs, and then click Add/Remove.
- Click Add/Remove, click Outlook, click Continue, and then click Yes to reinstall Outlook.
You must restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
