Programs Delayed When the Winsock Proxy Client Is Enabled

Article ID: 253129

Article Last Modified on 5/19/2000

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q253129

SYMPTOMS

Some programs may be delayed or may perform poorly after Winsock Proxy Client is installed on a computer. Note that the presence of the Winsock Proxy Client software may be purely circumstantial; this article does not attempt to describe all possible causes of network delays.

A common symptom of this issue may be a delayed network logon attempt.

CAUSE

Programs or services that are attempting to communicate over a local area network (LAN) may be delayed by one minute or more if the program cannot open and write to the C:\Mspclnt\Msplock.lck Winsock Proxy Client file.

RESOLUTION

Set the NTFS permissions on the C:\Mspclnt\Msplock.lck Winsock Proxy Client file so that the System account has Full Control permission. Also, give Full Control permission to any account that other system services are running under or using.
