SYMPTOMS

If you enable Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) on your computer, your serial mouse may stop responding after you resume from Standby mode.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, change the ConfigFlags value to 00 00 01 00 in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\

  1. To find the ConfigFlags, click Find on the Edit menu, type mouse in the Find what box, and then click Find next.
  2. In each entry you find Mouse, change the ConfigFlags value to 00 00 01 00. Press the F3 key to find the next entry.
  3. Restart the computer.

For example, if a Microsoft IntelliMouse is connected to one of your serial ports, the associated registry entry would be:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\SERENUM\MSH0001\ACPI&*PNP501&0

Value: ConfigFlags
Value data: 00 00 01 00 (Binary Value)
