This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).
SYMPTOMS
When you install the Microsoft Access 2000 Run-Time component on a computer, you see a screen titled Ready to Install. This screen shows the default installation location as follows:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\
The following behavior may occur, depending on which installation option you select.
Scenario 1
If you choose to install to the indicated location by clicking Install Now, the Access 2000 Run-Time component, MsAccess.exe, is installed instead to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ART\Office
In this case, even though the stated installation location and the actual installation location are different, the Access 2000 Run-Time component should function correctly. In addition, if Access 97 or the Access 97 Run-Time component has been installed previously, it should also function correctly.
Scenario 2
If you choose Customize, the default installation location is shown as follows:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\
If you accept that path and continue with Setup by clicking OK, and then Install Now, the Run-Time component is actually installed to the following location:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
In this case, if you had installed Microsoft Access 97 or the Access 97 Run-Time component to its default location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office), Access 97 will be overwritten and will no longer work. When you try to start Access 97, you may see one of the following error messages:

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Service Release 1 (MOD SR-1) Fulfillment CD.
NOTE: You cannot correct this problem by downloading and installing the MOD SR-1 Update because it does not include the Access Run-Time SR-1 files.

To work around this behavior, make sure that you either avoid clicking the Customize button, or, if you do, make sure to set the path for the installation location to a folder that does not contain another version of Access.
If Access 97 has been overwritten by the Access 2000 Run-Time component, you must remove the Access 2000 run-time application, and then reinstall Access 97.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Developer SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior
- On a new installation of Windows 98, install Microsoft Access 97. Make sure to let it install into the default location of C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office.
- Install an Access 2000 run-time application that includes the Access 2000 Run-Time component.
- On the Ready to Install screen, click Install Now.
- Note that MsAccess.exe is installed to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ART\Office
- Remove the Access 2000 Run-Time component.
- Start Setup of the Access 2000 Run-Time component again.
- On the Ready to Install screen, click Customize.
- Click Back, and then Install Now.
- Note that MsAccess.exe is installed to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
