PRB: Table Designer Automatically Clears Results Pane When Idle

Article ID: 252434

Article Last Modified on 10/16/2002

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q252434

SYMPTOMS

When you open a few large tables in the Enterprise Manager Table Designer and let it be idle for some time, the top-most Results pane is cleared and you receive the following error message:

The Results pane has been cleared to conserve server resources.
To work with the result set again, re-run the query.

CAUSE

The Table Designer clears the Results pane to conserve server resources. This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

To reproduce the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Open a couple of tables with a few hundred rows (retrieve all rows) from Enterprise Manager.
  2. Let the Enterprise Manager remain idle for 2 to 5 minutes.
  3. A dialog box opens that contains this text:

There has been no recent activity in the results pane,
so the results pane will be automatically cleared in one
    minute to free server resources...............
Do you want to continue working with this result set?

If you do not click anything, after the error appears, then the following dialog box displays:

The Results pane has been cleared to conserver server resources.
To work with the result set again, re-run the query.
