How to convert MTS packages to COM+ applications

Article ID: 252400

Article Last Modified on 7/15/2004

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft COM+ 1.0
  • Microsoft Transaction Services 2.0

This article was previously published under Q252400

SUMMARY

Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) packages can be migrated into COM+ applications in two ways:

  • Reinstalling the package in COM+: Manually export your MTS packages before upgrading, upgrade to Windows 2000, and then add the PAK files generated to the COM+ applications.
  • Upgrading the operating system: When a computer running Windows NT 4.0, Windows 95, or Windows 98 with Windows Option Pack is upgraded to Windows 2000, Setup will automatically transform all existing MTS packages to COM+ applications (except for the MTS SDK sample applications). The MTSTOCOM utility handles the conversion of packages and role member creation. However, sometimes it is better to reinstall the operating system anew, so if the first solution is viable, opt for that one.

MORE INFORMATION

MSDN has excellent reference information on this issue. If you have MTS packages and you are moving your application server to Windows 2000, then see this section of the COM+ documentation:
