SYMPTOMS

Outlook 2000 is not able to navigate a Certificate Distribution Point through multiple levels of a certificate chain after retrieving a certificate from a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2.

With this new feature, if you configure the Microsoft LDAP Directory service to point to a single LDAP server in a multi-server Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) hierarchy, you can retrieve certificates from any server.
