SYMPTOMS

Under the following conditions, after approximately 10 minutes, you may lose network connectivity:

  • The network consists of two Windows Millennium-based computers that are using an IEEE 1394 connection.
  • Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the only installed protocol.
  • Network addresses have been automatically configured.


CAUSE

This problem can occur if the IP/1394 Arp client driver does not properly track the remote IP address.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
