XADM: Some Files Not Deleted When Exchange 2000 Server Is Removed

Article ID: 252117

Article Last Modified on 2/26/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q252117

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Setup program to remove Exchange 2000 Server from a computer, some files may not be deleted from the Exchsrvr folder or its subfolders. In particular, numerous files may remain in the Exchsrvr\Bin folder, even though Exchange 2000 Server has been removed.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if one or more files in the Exchsrvr folder structure are being used by another program while Exchange 2000 is being removed, which prevents the Setup program from deleting those files. For example, Exchange System Manager uses numerous files in the Exchsrvr\Bin folder. If Exchange System Manager is running while Exchange 2000 is being removed, the Setup program cannot delete those files.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue and completely remove Exchange 2000, manually delete the remaining files. For additional information about how to uninstall Exchange 2000 Server manually, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
