SUMMARY
Microsoft Word will vary the length of a footnote line. It is a normal function of a footnote line to be either short or long, depending on the source of the footnote text. Word will print a short footnote line if the text following the line is the beginning of a footnote; however, Word will print a long footnote line if the text following the line is a continuation of a footnote from the previous page.
