SYMPTOMS

If you use the Active Directory Installation Wizard (Dcpromo.exe) to move an Exchange 2000 server to a new domain, you cannot use Setup to remove Exchange 2000 from the server computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Setup is looking for information that is in the Active Directory directory service, and this information is on the domain from which the Exchange 2000 server was removed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must manually remove Exchange 2000 from the server computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Exchange 2000.
