SYMPTOMS
When you delete any Active Directory object that is not Exchange 2000-mailbox-enabled, you receive an Active Directory dialog box that states:
The selected object has other associated objects. Select those associated objects that you also want to delete.
The Remove Exchange e-mail addresses and delete Exchange mailbox option is selected by default, and you may or may not be able to change it, despite the fact that the object is not mailbox-enabled.
CAUSE
The Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in does not query for the existence of associated Exchange attributes and objects.
WORKAROUND
Ignore the dialog box, and click OK. The object will still be correctly deleted.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
