XIMS: Socket Connection Accepted After Target Virtual Server Is Stopped

Article ID: 252015

Article Last Modified on 2/21/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q252015

SUMMARY

If you create an additional POP3 virtual server and assign it an IP address, POP3 clients can still connect to the assigned IP address and retrieve mail even though you already stopped this virtual server.

This behavior occurs if the default POP3 virtual server IP address setting is "All Unassigned." The default POP3 virtual server continues to accept connections from clients.

You can verify this when you view the connections in the Current Sessions object under the default POP3 virtual server.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is by design. The same scenario applies to the IMAP virtual server.
