XADM: Creating a Mailbox and Windows NT User Account Doesn't Work

Article ID: 252010

Article Last Modified on 2/27/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q252010

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program to create a mailbox and a new Microsoft Windows NT account, it may not work, and you may receive the following error message:

No Mapping between account names and security IDs was done Microsoft Windows NT
ID nro 0xc0020534

This error occurs even though the appropriate trust has been created between the resource domain that Exchange Server is in and the Accounts domain where users are created.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. The user is being created in the Accounts domain but Exchange Server is communicating with the domain controller (DC) in the Resource domain. After replication occurs between the two domains, the DC that Exchange Server is communicating with can evaluate the newly created user.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5.
