SYMPTOMS
When attempting to restore an Exchange 2000 database, you may receive the following pop-up warnings when you click OK in the Restoring Database Store window:
When you click OK, you again receive:
When you click OK again, you receive:
When you click OK, you are still in the Restoring Database Store window. The restore did not begin and no services were stopped.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the Temporary location for log and patch files box in the Restoring Database Store window contains an invalid entry. Some examples are:
- The window is left empty.
- The window contains a path to a drive that does not exist.
- The window contains a path to a mapped network drive.
- The window contains a path to a drive or directory where it cannot create files.
RESOLUTION
Type a valid path in the Temporary location for log and patch files box. This is the location where the backup program stores temporary files used during the restore process.
A valid entry is a local, writeable drive and path, and looks similar to the following:
C:\temp
If the directory does not exist, the backup program attempts to create it.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
