Article ID: 251522

Article Last Modified on 2/26/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q251522

SYMPTOMS

When you administer a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server using the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program, you receive the following error message when you attempt to enable or disable circular logging on the directory:

Microsoft Exchange Administrator
The specified service does not exist as an installed service

Microsoft Windows NT
ID no: 0xc0020424

When you attempt to enable or disable circular logging on the information Store, the Administrator program completes the process but has no effect on the Exchange 2000 information store.

CAUSE

The Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program is looking for the directory service, which no longer exists in Exchange 2000.

RESOLUTION

Use the Microsoft Exchange 2000 System Manager Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in for changing the circular logging settings on Exchange 2000 servers.
