Rolling Upgrade of Cluster Nodes from Beta to Retail Not Supported

ID: Q251434

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SUMMARY

Microsoft supports upgrading your operating system and cluster by using the procedure outlined in the "Getting Started" section titled "Upgrade Cluster Service Without Maintaining Cluster Availability" in online Help.

Rolling upgrades for environments that are running a mixed-mode configuration in which one node is running a Beta or Evaluation pre-release version and the other is running the Retail version are not supported.

The primary issue is the mixing of the cluster Interface Definition Language (IDL) for Remote Procedure Call (RPC) interfaces.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows 2000 pre-release versions that are running the Cluster service operate under the constraints for upgrades defined on the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/upgrade/betaupgrade/default.asp

For more information about rolling upgrades from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Enterprise Edition, see the online Help. The information is located in the "Getting Started with Windows 2000 Advanced Server - Installation and Upgrading of Cluster Nodes" section.
