SYMPTOMS

When you use the Active Directory Sites and Services tool to adjust the replication interval or cost for any site link, you can add any number, however, the number that is used is a value within the valid threshold.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

The actual thresholds are as follows:

Replication Interval

  • Lower Limit= 15 minutes
  • Upper Limit= 10080 minutes

Cost

  • Lower Limit= 1
  • Upper Limit= 32767

If you make an invalid entry, replication continues to work properly. If you add a Replication Interval of one minute, it defaults to use the lowest possible setting of 15 minutes. If you add a cost of 99999, it defaults to the highest valid cost of 32767.

The DEFAULTIPSITELINK feature is created when you set up the domain.
