SYMPTOMS

When you double-click My Computer from the desktop, or after you upgrade to Internet Explorer 5 or Internet Explorer 5.01 while sitting idle at the desktop, you may receive one of the following error messages:

IEXPLORE caused a General Protection Fault in module Webcheck.dll

Explorer caused an exception 6d007fh in module Webcheck.dll at {memory address}

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following files are the incorrect version (4.72.3110.0).

Cdfview.dll
Webcheck.dll
Msidle.dll
Licmgr10.dll
Pngfilt.dll
Jsproxy.dll


NOTE: The files should be version 5.00.2314.1000 (for Internet Explorer 5) or version 5.00.2919.6304 (for Internet Explorer 5.01).

In some cases, the following files could also be the incorrect versions:

T2embed.dll
Vbscript.dll
Wshom.ocx


RESOLUTION

To resolve the issue, extract the correct versions of the files listed using the Windows 98 System File Checker.

These files are located either in the Windows Update Setup Files folder located on drive C (if you downloaded Internet Explorer) or on the CD-ROM from which you installed Internet Explorer. The Cdfview.dll, Webcheck.dll and Msidle.dll files are located in the Mobile95.cab file.

The Licmgr10.dll, Pngfilt.dll and Jsproxy.dll files are located in the Advauth.cab file.

The T2embed.dll is located in the Ie_extra.cab file.

The Vbscript.dll and Wshom.ocx files are located in the Vbscript.cab file.
