PI Error Message: Picture Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Piintro.exe

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Picture It! or play the introductory video clip, you may receive any of the following error messages

  • Picture caused an invalid page fault in module Piintro.exe.


  • Piintro caused an invalid page fault in module Unknown.


  • Your program is making an invalid dynamic link call to a *.dll file.


or Picture It! may stop responding (hang) during the startup sequence.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the video compression component of Microsoft Windows is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove and reinstall Windows video compression:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Windows Setup tab, click Multimedia.
  4. Click Details.
  5. Click to clear the Video Compression check box.
  6. Click OK, and then click Apply.
  7. On the Windows Setup tab, click Multimedia.
  8. Click Details.
  9. Click to select the Video Compression check box.
  10. Click OK until you return to Control Panel.
  11. Follow the instructions on the screen. You may be prompted to insert your Microsoft Windows CD-ROM or floppy disks.
  12. Close Control Panel, and then restart the computer.

If the issue continues to occur, disable the introductory video clip:

  1. Start Picture It!.
  2. On the View menu, click Options.
  3. Click to clear the Show Introduction check box.
  4. Click OK.

If you are unable to start Picture It!:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following line (including the quotation marks), and then click OK

    "drive:\program files\microsoft picture it!\picture.exe" /nointro

    where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Picture It! is installed.
  3. On the View menu, click Options.
  4. Click to clear the Show Introduction check box.
  5. Click OK.
