SYMPTOMS
If driver signing is turned on and you install a network printer from a print server (the files to install the network printer are copied from the print server), you do not receive a driver signing prompt.
You do receive a driver signing prompt if the files for the network printer are copied from your local flat folder if the files are not signed.
CAUSE
There is no driver signing prompt for a network printer that is installed by using drivers from the print server. This is expected behavior. Point and Print does not install by using an .inf file, so no .cat file is specified. The digital signing dialog box appears only if the .inf file specifies a .cat file and either the .cat file is missing or does not match the files being copied.
Corporations that require digital signing may not be able to use the Point and Print feature.
Signature verification works only if you install a driver .inf file by using Device Manager.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, install the printer on the server, and then delete the dependent file list from the server.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
