OL2000: Cannot Change Low Macro Security Level

Article ID: 249792

Article Last Modified on 11/5/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q249792

SYMPTOMS

On a locked-down system, the macro security dialog box may always show low security (not recommended) so that you do not receive macro warnings and cannot change the security setting.

CAUSE

An administrator can set keys in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree which overrides the HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys, so that only an administrator can change the settings.

Once any registry key is placed in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SoftwareMicrosoft\Office\9.0\Security

the macro security defaults to "low" and can not be changed, so you do not receive macro warnings.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
