SYMPTOMS

When you install Outlook after applying Service Pack 5 (SP5) for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Symantec Fax Starter Edition is not installed. If you click New Fax Message on the Actions menu and then click Yes when prompted to install on demand, it still is not installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not exhibit itself with Outlook installed on Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 applied. A more drastic workaround is to format your hard drive, install Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3, then install Outlook (IMO) configured with Symantec Fax Starter Edition, and then finally, apply Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.
