SYMPTOMS
If you copy and paste part of a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet into an Outlook Rich Text format message, when the recipient of the message double-clicks it to open it, the entire spreadsheet appears instead of only the part that was sent. This is different behavior from Microsoft Word, Microsoft WordPad, and Microsoft PowerPoint documents, which paste only what you copied.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE:The fix changes the default Paste behavior, which is now Formatted Text, instead of Microsoft Excel Worksheet (an OLE object). If you click Paste Special, and then Microsoft Excel Worksheet, it still pastes the entire document and not just the copied data.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
