WD2000: Word Does Not Capitalize First Letter of Sentence in Numbered or Bulleted List



The information in this article applies to:


  • Microsoft Word 2000





SYMPTOMS

When you create a numbered or bulleted list item, the first character of the numbered or bulleted sentence or paragraph is not capitalized.

This problem occurs even when you have selected the Capitalize first letter of sentences option.

NOTE: Word capitalizes the first letter of the second and remaining sentences of a numbered or bulleted list item.



WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select the first character of the sentence that follows the number or bullet, and then do one of the following:

  • Retype the character as a capital letter.


-or-

  • Press SHIFT+F3 to change the case of the character to a capital letter.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

To select the Capitalize first letter of sentences option, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect.
  2. On the AutoCorrect tab, select the Capitalize first letter of sentences check box.
  3. Click OK.
