Last reviewed: November 2, 1994
Article ID: Q24949

SUMMARY

You can select cells using the keyboard, instead of the mouse, in Microsoft Excel. The following keystrokes will change the cell selection:

   Key Combination Action
   --------------- ------

TAB Selects cell to right of active cell
SHIFT+TAB Selects cell to left of active cell
RETURN Selects cell below the active cell
SHIFT+RETURN Selects cell above active cell

If a range of cells is selected, you can use the OPTION key in combination with any of the above key combinations to move the entire selection in the same direction as above. For example, if cells A1:B5 are selected, you can select cells C1:D5 by pressing OPTION+TAB. For more information on moving and selecting in a worksheet, see Page 76 in the "Microsoft Excel User's Guide" version 3.00. If you are using Excel version 2.20, see Pages 419-422 of the "Microsoft Excel Reference" version 2.2 manual.
