SYMPTOMS
If the message format is set to HTML, when the reply is downloaded by a POP3 client, it has "ticking." This occurs only with plain text or rich text messages.
"Ticking" refers to the insertion of a character at the beginning of each line of text in a reply message, such as a greater than (>) sign. For example, in Microsoft Outlook 98 and later versions, you can set ticking by clicking E-mail Options located under Options on the Tools menu. The Prefix each line with box determines what character to use to "tick" each line.
CAUSE
When Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server looks at a Rich Text Format (RTF) message, it has no knowledge of Outlook settings.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
