SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to open Outlook, you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
Your TCP/IP settings may be damaged or incorrectly configured.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, remove and reinstall TCP/IP in the Network tool in Control Panel. To do this, follow the procedure for your operating system:
Microsoft Windows 2000
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.
- In the Network and Dial-up Connections tool, right-click
Local Area Connection
, and then click Properties. - Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Uninstall to uninstall Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 to uninstall Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from all connections in the Network and Dial-up Connections tool.
- In the Network and Dial-up Connections tool, right-click
Local Area Connection
, and then click Properties. - Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Install to install Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 to install Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) for all connections in the Network and Dial-up Connections tool.
- Restart the computer.
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Network icon.
- On the Protocols tab, click TCP/IP, and then click Remove.
- Click Add, and then click TCP/IP.
- Click OK, and then click OK.
- When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Network icon.
- Click TCP/IP, and then click Remove.
- Click Add. In the left pane, click Microsoft , and then in the right pane click TCP/IP.
- Click OK, and then click OK.
- When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
