XIMS: Cannot Create Channel in Exchange 2000 Chat

Article ID: 249258

Article Last Modified on 2/27/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q249258

SUMMARY

If you try to create a channel in Exchange 2000 Server by using Microsoft Management Console (MMC) where the channel name does not begin with a number sign (#), you receive the following error message:

Invalid Channel Name

This behavior is by design, because the Exchange 2000 chat service no longer supports the Microsoft Internet Chat (MIC) protocol. All channel names must be Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or Internet Relay Chat Protocol (IRCX) compliant, and must begin with a #.
