SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft XML parser (MSXML) may return a parse error when it handles a dateTime field with a factional-second measurement of more than three digits.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

For other operating systems, upgrade to MSXML 2.5 Service Pack 1. This service pack is included in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1. The MSXML implementation contained in this fix accepts up to nine digits for fractional seconds (nanoseconds) without returning a parse error and is accurate up to three digits (milliseconds). Any digits beyond three are ignored.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in MSXML 2.5 Service Pack 1.
