OL98: Date and Time Stamps Are Changed on File Attachments

Article ID: 249075

Article Last Modified on 9/23/2005

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Outlook 98 Standard Edition, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

This article was previously published under Q249075

SYMPTOMS

When you receive an e-mail message with a file attachment and you save the attachment on your computer, the date and time stamps are changed to your computer's current date and time settings instead of maintaining the original date and time stamp.

RESOLUTION

The resolution for this problem has one limitation. It does not work for any files that are attached to an e-mail message by using a drag-and-drop operation. The drag-and-drop operation uses the Clipboard. Outlook does not control the Clipboard, and Outlook cannot obtain the date and time information from the Clipboard.

If the sender uses a command on the menu to attach a file to an e-mail message the date and time information for the file is maintained when you save the attachment.

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information on support costs, please go to the following address on the World Wide Web:

The English-language version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
