SYMPTOMS
When you alter toolbars using Automation, changes are not saved when you close and then restart Microsoft Excel.
CAUSE
This problem only occurs when you start Excel from a client application using Automation. If you start Excel from the Start menu, the problem does not occur.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To temporarily work around this problem, start Excel from the Start menu.
