PPT2000: PowerPoint Stops Responding When Window Status Changed During a Slide Show

SYMPTOMS

When you right-click Microsoft PowerPoint on the taskbar during a slide show and click Minimize, PowerPoint and the slide show stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the Office Assistant is visible, and you do the following:

  1. On the Slide Show menu, click View Show.
  2. Press the Windows logo key or CTRL+ESC to show the taskbar.
  3. Right-click Microsoft PowerPoint on the taskbar, and click Minimize on the shortcut menu.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To temporarily work around this problem, close PowerPoint manually by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE. When the Close Program window appears, select Microsoft PowerPoint, and then click End Task.

To prevent this problem from occurring, hide the Office Assistant.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
