When you create a MIX file in Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000, you may receive the following error message if you open the MIX file in Microsoft Office Binder 2000:

The file filename could not be opened. Please make sure the file extension is correct.

If you click OK, you receive the following error message in Office Binder 2000:

Office Binder cannot activate this section in the binder.

Double-click the icon above or click View Outside on the Section menu to work on the section outside the binder.

If you double-click the MIX file icon or click View Outside on the Section menu, you receive the first error message displayed above.

In addition, if you attempt to print to view a print preview the MIX file, you may receive the first error message displayed above, or the following error message:

An error has occurred printing section filename.

Do you want to continue printing the binder document?

If you click No, you receive the following error message:

An error occurred while printing the binder. There may not be enough memory available on your computer. Close other programs and then try printing again.

This behavior can occur because Office Binder is not fully compatible with PhotoDraw MIX files, and PhotoDraw cannot open MIX files that are stored in an Office Binder folder.

To work around this issue, do not store PhotoDraw MIX files inside an Office Binder folder.

If a PhotoDraw MIX file is stored inside an Office Binder folder, use the following method to extract the PhotoDraw MIX file.

  1. Inside Office Binder, click Section.
  2. Click Save as file.
  3. Save the file outside Office Binder, and then edit the file in PhotoDraw.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
