SYMPTOMS

The following error messages may be displayed in the error log:

  • "Server Status Tool.job" (vaprpt.exe)

Started 12/13/99 11:00:00 AM

  • "Server Status Tool.job" (vaprpt.exe) 12/13/99 12:00:00 PM ** WARNING**

The task was forced to close since its execution time exceeded the configured maximum. You may want to go to the Settings page and increase the "Stop the scheduled task after" time.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the server takes longer than one hour to process the reports to be sent out. By default, the task is stopped if it takes longer than one hour to complete. The server can take longer than an hour to run this task if it is servicing other requests. An incorrectly typed e-mail address can also cause this behavior.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the appropriate method.

Method 1

Schedule the Server Status tool to compile and send the reports when the server has more idle time:

  1. Start the SBS console.
  2. Click Tasks, and then click Configure Server Status Tool.
  3. In the Help dialog box, click Server Status Configuration.
  4. In the Server Status Configuration dialog box, click Schedule.
  5. In the Schedule Task box, select how often you want the task to be run. You can make any of the following choices:
    • Daily: In the Start Time box, select the time to start the task. In the Schedule Task Daily box, specify how often you want the task to run (this value can be any number between 1 and 32,767).
    • Weekly: In the Start Time box, select the time to start the task. In the Schedule Task Weekly box, specify how often you want the task to run (this value can be any number between 1 and 32,767). You can also choose which days of the week you want the task to be run.
    • Monthly: In the Schedule Task Monthly box, select the day of the month and which months you want the task run.
    • Once: In the Schedule Task Once box, select the appropriate day to run the task.
    • At System Startup: No additional configuration is necessary.
    • At Logon: No additional configuration is necessary.
    • When Idle: In the Schedule Task When Idle box, select the length of time for which the computer has been idle (this value can be any number between 1 and 999).
  6. Click OK.

Method 2

Disable the default time it takes to process the reports:

  1. Start the SBS console.
  2. Click Tasks, and then click Configure Server Status Tool.
  3. In the Help dialog box, click Server Status Configuration.
  4. In the Server Status Configuration dialog box, click Settings.
  5. In the Schedule Task Completed area, click to clear the Stop the task if it runs for 1 hour(s) 0 minute(s) check box.
  6. Click OK.

Method 3

Change the time it takes to process the reports:

  1. Start the SBS console.
  2. Click Tasks, and then click Configure Server Status Tool.
  3. In the Help dialog box, click Server Status Configuration.
  4. In the Server Status Configuration dialog box, click Settings.
  5. In the Schedule Task Completed area, increase or decrease the hour and minute settings for the Stop the task if it runs for 1 hour(s) 0 minute(s) option.
  6. Click OK.
