SYMPTOMS
When you run Outlook, and you click to select the Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting check box in the Microsoft Office Profile Wizard, Outlook may not empty the deleted items folder when you quit Outlook.
CAUSE
The Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting setting is not captured by the Office Profile Wizard. Outlook continues to store the setting in one of the following registry keys:
For Microsoft Windows NT:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<ProfileName>\0a0d020000000000c000000000000046
Value Name: 000b0115
For Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<ProfileName>\0a0d020000000000c000000000000046
Value Name: 000b0115
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
The Office Profile Wizard saves and restores Outlook settings in the following registry key:
'
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Preferences Value Name: EmptyTrash
Because Outlook stores this setting in your Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile key in the registry, the Office Profile Wizard is unable to obtain this setting.
