SYMPTOMS
If you do not immediately restart your computer after you create a volume set using the Disk Administrator tool, the computer may not properly report the correct partition size.
RESOLUTION
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this problem, modify the BootExecute registry value to start the Autochk tool when restarting your computer:
- Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
- Locate the BootExecute value under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
- On the Edit menu, click Multi String, put the cursor at the end of the value "autocheck autochk *", and then press ENTER. On the next line type autochk /x D: where D: is the drive letter of the drive being extended, and then click OK.
NOTE: The default value is the single string "autocheck autochk *". - Quit Registry Editor.
When you restart your computer, Autochk creates or extends (as necessary) the volume set, and updates the file system boot partition. The volume set then reports the correct size.
