This article was previously published under Q247594

SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based computer that has an Award 4.51 PG basic input/output system (BIOS), when you disable communications port 2 (COM2), assign interrupt request line (IRQ) 2 to COM2, and then restart the computer, the following fatal system error occurs:

Fatal System Error: 0x00000077
(0x00000103,0xC000000E,0x00000000,0x00032000)

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because IRQ2 is a cascade interrupt for IRQ8 through IRQ15 and is not available for assignment to a COM port.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.
