SYMPTOMS
In the Lotus Notes Administration program, you can create a Notes mailbox and specify it to also create a Microsoft Windows NT user account for that mailbox. When the Notes server is installed on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000, this new user account is added to the Users container in the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in. When you then configure a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Connector for Lotus Notes, directory replication occurs, and a second entry for the Notes mailbox appears in Window 2000 Active Directory.
CAUSE
When Notes creates the user account in Active Directory, Notes does not mail-enable the entry because it does not have the knowledge to define the mail-enable information or the Notes proxy generator. When you install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, Exchange 2000 does not automatically mail-enable the pre-existing Notes user accounts. Thus, these existing Notes user accounts cannot merge with the new entry that is created after directory replication occurs between Notes and Exchange 2000.
WORKAROUND
You must use the Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard to merge these entries. To run this utility, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and click the Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard.
