Cannot Use Static IP Address on Private Network ID: Q247443 The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SYMPTOMS When you use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server to assign Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to clients on a private network, you cannot assign a static IP address to a Windows 2000-based computer. CAUSE This behavior occurs because the DHCP allocator is hard-coded to use the network address 192.168.0.x with the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for private network IP addresses, and does not provide an option for using statically assigned IP addresses. STATUS Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
